Food & Drink
Exceptional Food, Exceptional Service, Exceptional Place...at the Right Price
We think that the above does justice to what we strive to achieve with every meal that comes out of the kitchens at The Bear and Ragged Staff . We are not trying to be trendy, super-sophisticated , just honest and true to our local roots. Our food is beginning to get a fair bit of recognition too. The Trip Advisor website has rated us in the top 10 since August 2011 out of over 360 Oxfordshire restaurants.
Our aim is to tickle your taste buds with some contemporary and classic, hearty, mainly British food, well presented and served with a smile, made from locally sourced ingredients wherever practical. And by British food, we do not mean lumps of murdered meat and two boiled to death veggies served with lumpy mash and gravy. You only have to take a look at the countryside near to our Oxfordshire home to get inspiration from the local farmers produce and the game that heaves in the fields nearby.
In addition to our main menu, we also offer a light lunch menu from Monday to Friday. This mainly features items from our main menu in slightly smaller portions for just £9.00 and sandwiches from £6.75.
Our Wines & Drinks
Our Wine List has been chosen with great care and we believe offers great value for money at all entry points. It ranges from the Lebanese blockbuster, Chateau Musar, to the stunning White Rioja from Jaun D’Alzate. We also have a selection of cocktails on request and a small but superb collection of Ports and "Top Shelf" spirits.
We also maintain a list of "Special Wines" which those familiar with the wine trade would refer to as "Bin Ends". These (usually) small parcels of a few dozen bottles come at greatly reduced prices. We pass our savings on to you thereby creating real value for those who appreciate a bit of a bargain with dinner.
In addition to our lagers, we maintain a selection of real ales that are kep in tip top condition in our temperature controlled cellar. We also offer a selection of cocktails on request and a small but superb collection of Ports and "Top Shelf" malt whiskies.
